- Some simple tips to help secure your home:
- Fit deadlocks do not keep keys in obvious places.
- Make sure ground floor and basement windows are fitted with locks.
- Close all windows and doors at all times even on short excursions from your home.
- Never leave keys under the doormat or a plant pot or on a string through the letterbox.
- Position valuables so as not to attract attention.
- Use a security marker on valuables, note down serial numbers, photograph unusual items, and keep a full inventory.
- Make sure your home is properly lit inside and out.
Holiday checklist - make sure:
- All delivered items are cancelled e.g. milk, newspapers.
- Fit automated timers to your lights to switch lights on and off.
- Get a neighbour to check post.
- Alarm if any is set correctly
