Ciqurix Fire Detection for Distribution Centres

The client was a specialist frozen storage and distribution company managing a 45,000 pallet facility. The fully-automated 9,000m2 frozen storage area has 35m high ceilings and an operational temperature of -27°C. However, the Ciqurix CORE system is seriously effective in such a challenging environment. It detects multiple fires in seconds, at all light levels, and it can see fire at up to 180 metres.

Challenge:

The facility required a highly reliable, compliant fire detection system that could operate with minimum risk of failure in the frozen environment.

  Chilled and frozen warehouses normally rely upon aspirating detection, which detects fire and smoke particles in the circulating air. Unfortunately this method can be ineffective due to cold- or moisture-related issues affecting detection and performance.

  The design of chilled and frozen storage facilities, usually consisting of compex racking systems and restricted access areas, can pose problems when it comes to fire detection system placement and installation, potentially to the detriment of the system’s efficacy.

Solution:

The Ciqurix CORE video fire detection system was determined to be the best option for the frozen storage areas.

  16 video detectors were installed and mounted at high levels of the facility’s aisles to allow maintenance access and detection efficiency; 2 video detectors were also installed to protect an open area of the warehouse. If a fire occurs in a specific aisle, the CORE system is quickly alerted to its location.

Results:

Our client is delighted with the system’s performance and reliability, and is considering installing the CORE system in place of the aspiration systems currently in use at other chilled and frozen sites in the group.
