Congratulations – you’ve moved into a new home! Here are a few of the things you should do first.
First of all, you had to pack up all of the things from your last home, then there was the move itself followed by hours of unpacking boxes – surely it’s time to sit down? Sorry, there are still a few things to tick off on your checklist, but trust us, they’re worth it. Moving into a new home is an exciting time, and in between all the picking curtains and painting walls, it’s easy to forget the little things – even the little things that make a big difference. Change your locks
Perhaps your previous owners gave a forgotten key to a friend, or maybe they dropped it somewhere? Without meaning to sound suspicious, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Check the essentials
Gas in working order? Check. No leaks? Check. Windows and doors secure? Check and check. Go through these with a fine tooth comb.
Plan a fire escape route
On the event of a fire, it’s important that everyone in the house understands the safety procedure. Now is the best time to install a fire alarm too, we can help!
Install a burglar alarm

Talk to the neighbours
What should you be aware of in the local area? Is there a neighbourhood watch scheme? Ask the people who know the area most, but make sure you don’t give away too much info about yourself.
Write a maintenance schedule
This plan should include a list of maintenance tasks you need to carry out on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis. Make a habit of running through it every now and then – regular check ups can prevent a bucket load of preventable damage.
