How to Choose Your Key Holder

Peace of mind when you’re away from home – here are some hints and tips on choosing your designated key holder.

When we install any of our alarms, we ask our customers to choose a designated key holder – someone they trust to be a point of contact and keep an eye on their home when they’re on holiday, at work or just need a helping hand here and there. It’s important to choose the right person, so here are a few hints and tips for picking your designated key holder.

Trust is a Must

The is a no brainer, but make sure you choose someone who you really know. Family members are often the best bet, or friends you have known for a very long time. This person will have a key to your home, and trust is a big part of your own peace of mind. Top tip: You could offer to be their key holder too!

Easy to Contact

This is another obvious one, but make sure you choose someone who is easy to reach  – they must have a phone (preferably mobile and landline) so if your alarm is triggered, you know they’ll be notified as and when it happens.

Location, Location

When your alarm goes off (and you’re not there) your designated key holder will be notified, so it’s worth while choosing someone who lives nearby. This way, they’ll be able to respond quickly and make sure things are all okay.

Own Transport

Similarly to the point above, it’s important that your key holder can attend within twenty minutes of being notified, which is much easier for someone with their own car, so there’s no time waiting on buses or trains – time is of the essence!
