Never leave without your smart phone? Here’s how you can use it for personal safety with our top 5 apps…
Nowadays, you rarely see people without a phone in their hand, which is great, because it means you can be reachable or get in contact if you ever need help (something that previous generations didn’t have the technology to do). What’s even better, new technology means there are more and more ways to use your phone for your own safety – here are our top five safety apps…
Companion
- What it does: Makes that walk home a little less daunting by alerting your friends when you get home.
- How it works: Anyone who’s worried about heading home can use the app to choose ‘companions’ – people in their phone-book who they can choose to track their location as they walk home. Once the person reaches home, their companions will be automatically notified.

Panic Guard
- What it does: It’s a personal alarm, alert system, GPS and recorder all in one.
- How it works: As soon as you turn on the app, it turns the phone into a personal safety device, enabling advanced monitoring through real-time GPS, wherever you are. One shake of your phone send an alert the your emergency contacts via text, email and social media. The alert is also received by the Police with your exact location and automatically uploads a recorded video or audio clip, so if you ever feel in danger, it can be used as evidence later.

- How it works: Just attach your Bluetooth-activated Lupo to your bag or keys and set up the app on your phone. If your bag/keys are lost or taken, your phone will track it via GPS. To prevent your things getting lost, the app also alerts you when you’re out with a certain range (so you don’t have that horrible feeling in your tummy when you realise you’ve left something on the bus).
