October Break Activities
The October break is almost upon us, so here are a few ideas for keeping the kids busy…
It feels like the kids only went back to school, when all of a sudden, we realise the October break is just around the corner. Time off is the perfect excuse to spend some time with the family and the new season means there are loads of ways to keep the kids entertained, that doesn’t involve a tv or computer (bonus!) We’ve put together some of our favourite ideas for getting outside and learning together during the October break…
Autumn Nature Exploration Table
We found this great idea over The Imagination Tree, called the Autumn Nature Exploration Table. What you do, is head out for a walk – whether it’s a park or just a nip to the shops and get the kids to pick up lots of different Autumn things they see (leaves, conkers, acorns etc) and put them in a basket. When you get home, lay them all out on the table with the names of the items and a fact or two about them! Getting outside and learning a thing or two – it’s a win-win!
Leaf Maze
So simple and such a great idea from the guys at Happy Hooligans! If you’ve got lots of leaves piling up in the garden (or even in the park) kick them all together to make a maze. You can choose any shape you like and even switch it up, if you like – then time the kids to see how fast they can figure out (extra bonus if there’s a prize!)
Painted Acorns
This is great to do after you’ve done your Autumn Nature Exploration Table (see above). We love this idea from Crafty Moms Share (a brilliant blog in the states) – all you need to do is collect some acorns and paint them as you like! You can use different colours, glitter, paper – anything that you can get your hands on, really! Top tip: Save your painted acorns and string them together to make nice Christmas decorations (it won’t be long!)
