How to stay safe on Bonfire Night

Remember, remember the 5th of November (and don’t forget to be safe!)

One of the things we love most about this time of year is bonfire night – hot chocolate, fireworks and wrapping up in our woolies has become a tradition for many of us (not to mention, it marks the countdown to Christmas!) However, bonfire night can also be quite dangerous, with over 990 firework related injuries recorded in the UK alone in one recent year alone. Here are a few of our top tips for having a fun (and safe) bonfire night…

• If you can help it – head along to an organised firework show rather than hosting your own. They’re run by pros with plenty of experience.
• If you are going to have your own display, make sure to buy your fireworks from a reliable source. You can easily pick them up in supermarkets or well-known home improvement stores.
• If three sparklers burn together, they will do so at the same heat of a blowtorch – make sure to keep them separate.
• Always stand at least 10 feet back from a bonfire.
• Always store fireworks and sparklers away from children – even if you don’t think they know they’re there, always keep them out of reach.
• Wait until fireworks are completely cool before you put them in the bin.
