Family Emergency Information Pack

You never know when an emergency can happen, so here’s a way to make sure your family are prepared.

Half the battle of dealing with an emergency situation is making sure everyone is on the same page when it comes to handling it, especially when there are little ones in the house. Have you ever thought of making a family emergency information pack? It’s a great way to teach kids about the importance of safety and to work together as a team on an agreed plan of action. Here are a few ideas of the things you can cover in your family emergency information pack.

Dial 999

When in danger, call 999 – it’s something we’re all taught in school. Write down a few example situations where a call to 999 would be used, and let them know what information they’ll need to give on the telephone (eg: address, who’s there and details of the emergency).

When not to dial 999

What sort of situations can be solved with calling your local Police Station or a family member? Write a list of phone numbers to reference and examples of when they should be called.

Plan a fire escape

In the event of a fire, make sure everyone knows the best plan for getting out safely. Top tip: Draw a map of your house and create alternative routes to escape fires in different rooms.

What alarms do you have? 

Let everyone know how secure your home is – what to do if an alarm goes off, what does it mean, what’s the safest procedure? All of this will make it easier for your alarm provider to respond in the event of an incident.
